Two major contributors to the diagnosis of “unexplained fertility” are an imbalance of hormones (think estrogen dominance or excess estrogen) and toxin overload. If you are looking to support your fertility and have heard you might be suffering from a toxin overload or estrogen dominance, a nutritional detox would be great step toward healing for you!
First, let’s identify some external toxins, and internal toxins.

The more you can do to lessen your toxin burden, the better! However, we live in this very-real-world, and being toxin free isn’t an option. A great place to start in your journey of limiting toxins is the Environmental Working Group’s app/website. Click here to check out their EWG Verified products. Start slow, don’t get overwhelmed, or go broke! When you run out of a household cleaner, look through their database to find a healthier replacement.
Then, when you run out of makeup, follow that same routine.
Nutritional Support of your Internal Detoxification Pathways
Thankfully, detoxing properly can rid your body of external toxins (from your environment), and excess hormones. Estrogen dominance requires proper function of the liver & bile, & regular bowel movements to get rid of the excess estrogens. First, we have to understand that there are two phases of detoxification: mobilizing toxins (getting them un-stuck from your cells) and eliminating them (through your elimination pathways).

I was intrigued to discover that metals and minerals both bind to the same receptor sites on our cells, so if you have a mineral deficiency (maybe zinc, copper, magnesium, etc.) then heavy metals can bind to those sites instead. Discovering your mineral deficiencies, through working with a Nutritional Therapy Practitioner, allows you to replenish those mineral stores and move those heavy metals & toxins.
However, if all you do is mobilize the toxins, they are still wreaking havoc somewhere else in your body. You need to also prepare your body to eliminate the toxins. Let’s discuss all the ways to prepare your pathways for toxin elimination.
IDEAL CONDITIONS FOR NATURAL DETOXIFICATION
Fasted State
most people should be able to go 4-5 hours between meals, & 14-15 hours overnight without eating,
when your body doesn’t have to focus on digesting foods, it can focus instead on detoxing
Balanced Blood Sugar
reduces cravings (so we don’t spend our day grazing and snacking)
reduces stress on the body
reduces stress on the liver so it can do its job in processing toxins & getting them ready for elimination
Stress
Try to reduce or manage stress, because your body needs to be in a parasympathetic state in order to detox
Minerals & Vitamins
-restoring mineral stores & balancing out our deficiencies helps the body release toxins
-magnesium supports phase 1 of detoxification, you can get magnesium from dark, leafy greens
-trace mineral drops are a great way to get minerals into your water, and tap into a parasympathetic state
-an Epsom Salt Bath soak supports magnesium and releasing toxins through sweat.
Digestion
-if you are constipated, this means you are not eliminating waste
support bile, because bile is the river by which toxins are removed through the bowel
-constipation means you need liver, gallbladder, & large intestine support (Beta-TCP is a Biotics supplement that supports all of these, Beta-Plus includes ox bile)
-adequate water intake (message me if you need to know what that is for your age/weight/activity level) will support elimination through regular bowel movements and elimination of toxins through urine
Hydration
-supports the cardiovascular system’s detoxification by moving blood
-moves waste through urine
-moves waste through lymph (in your blood), but this also requires movement (walking, yoga, dry-brushing, skin-brushing, massage)
-supports detoxing through sweat
-filter your water, avoid tap water and distilled water, and if using well water, include extra electrolytes through trace mineral drops
-back pain could be related to kidney function, support kidneys by drinking adequate amounts of water for your lifestyle
-Drinking coffee/tea? Then you need to add in even more water
Respiratory
we breathe out toxins through our lungs
Sleep
-Cerebral Fluid moves more when sleeping, and it moves waste
-adequate, quality rest will support a parasympathetic state
If you’d like more support in detoxing, a great place to find that is with a Nutritional Therapy Practitioner, who can identify your individual needs and give you a detailed plan to fill them!
